About

Perched high above the Solent and Meon Valley, Royal Armouries: Fort Nelson offers a wedding venue unlike any other. This restored Victorian fortress is both commanding and romantic, a place where centuries of history and striking architecture meet panoramic views and peaceful courtyards.

If you're looking for a setting with atmosphere, Fort Nelson delivers in spades. Its stone archways, historic ramparts and dramatic views provide a stunning backdrop for your wedding photos - not to mention a talking point for guests. This is no generic hotel ballroom: it’s a characterful, unique location that feels meaningful from the moment you arrive.

Ceremonies take place in the elegant former Officers’ Mess, a private and flexible suite of rooms licensed for civil ceremonies and partnerships. It’s perfect for an intimate gathering of up to 60 guests, with the option to hold your drinks reception in one of the Fort’s charming private courtyards.

For couples wanting to make the most of the day, Fort Nelson offers full wedding packages including a ceremony, wedding breakfast, and an evening reception for up to 100 guests. There’s a dedicated event manager on hand throughout the planning process, plus an experienced operations team to look after you and your guests on the day. Furniture, linens, vintage-style crockery, glassware and even free parking are included in the hire: no hidden extras or last-minute stress.

Food-wise, the catering options are flexible and creative. From seasonal two and three-course menus, to buffets and canapés, grazing boards and even a spicy chicken feast or Indian buffet, there’s something to suit every palate and style. Drinks packages can include Prosecco on arrival, wine for the tables, and a canape reception to kick things off in celebratory style.

Whether you’re planning a full day of festivities or simply a ceremony and toast with close friends and family, Fort Nelson provides an unforgettable, historic setting, proof that wedding venues can be unique and wonderfully welcoming.

Testimonials for Royal Armouries: Fort Nelson

Wedding at Fort NelsonDECEMBER, 2024

We had our wedding at the Royal Armouries Fort Nelson museum on Friday (29th) and it was such an amazing time. Nigel, the events manager, was amazing from the beginning of planning. Nothing was too much for him!! He made sure we were all happy and having a good time throughout. It’s such a unique and quirky place to have a wedding and the guests loved it, especially having the opportunity to explore the museum after it had closed to the public. I cannot fault the place and the staff in particular as they were amazing!! If you are planning a wedding, do it here!! 100% recommend. Thank you a million times over.

Wonderful venue SEPTEMBER, 2023

Our wonderful venue @royalarmouriesfortnelson adn the truly brilliant Beth there. This venue was truly spectacular, something so different and unique, I had to share it here. The staff were uncredible, personable and couldn't do enough for us. Nothing was too much. Beth- our coordinator, we owe Beth a thousand thank yous she was so easy to work with, helped everything sail through in such a relaxed manner that I was actually very chill. The sheer amount of space your given meant we could spread out, also walk around the Fort. The food was delicious and plentiful. Really would recommend this venue to anyone for any kind of event- the space is huge, beautiful and the views are spectaculor.
