Hertford Castle seems to do the impossible, offering couples a stunning, Grade I listed venue for their big day, while also prioritising accessibility, heralding itself as an affordable option for Hertfordshire weddings. First, let's take it back to the beginning: the area has almost ancient origins, originally the site of a Norman castle, while the current structure has stood since the 1500s and was the backdrop to much of Queen Elizabeth I's childhood. It goes without saying, if you and your beau are interested in history - it doesn't get much better than this.
For weddings, Hertford Castle can happily host both smaller, intimate celebrates or large, all-out big days. For your ceremony, the Salisbury Room hosts up to 50 people seated and is characterised by its huge, framing window which floods the space with light and is a lovely backdrop for the couple standing in front of their loved ones. Meanwhile, couples can also check out the Downshire Suite or the Mayor's Parlour, which boasts an ornate fireplace and pretty views. In the summer or for smaller occasions, the Victorian glass Conservatory is just right for up to 20 guests.
As for the wedding breakfast and evening disco, the team can talk through the options with you, with catering ideas spanning across sharing platters, a BBQ, wood fired pizzas or hog roast. Or, of course a traditional multi-course wedding breakfast, for which the capacity is 60 guests over two rooms. Entertainment or DJs are encouraged to help you and your guests enjoy the latter part of the day, when you're welcomed to invite an additional 40 guests standing. Catering is not provided in house, and while Hertford Castle has a list of previously-used suppliers, you can happily choose outside of this. Although, it should be noted that they will require a specific insurance and all plates, glassware, cutlery etc will need to be brought in.
