Few places rival Burghley House for a wedding filled with grandeur, romance and history. One of the finest Elizabethan houses in England, Burghley offers an extraordinary setting in the heart of the Lincolnshire countryside and what's even better, it can be exclusively yours for the day.
Built by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, the house is a spectacular example of sixteenth-century opulence and ambition. Today, it remains every bit as majestic and for you, can be a wedding venue that delivers unforgettable moments from the first vow to the last dance.
There are three licensed ceremony spaces to choose from, each with its own unique charm. The Great Hall, with its soaring hammer-beam ceiling and historic Tudor fireplace, sets a magnificent stage for your ceremony or wedding breakfast. In fact, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert dined here in 1844, and today, couples can still use the very same table. The Bow Room, adorned with frescoes and grand proportions, makes a striking backdrop for a more intimate ceremony of up to 80 guests. And for al fresco “I do”s, the Summer House in the South Gardens offers a beautifully secluded spot for up to 27 guests.
When it’s time to celebrate, the Orangery provides a light-filled and elegant setting for your evening reception. Overlooking the Rose Garden and parkland, this space is ideal for summer drinks, barbecues or simply dancing the night away, with space for up to 180 guests.
Of course, a wedding at Burghley isn’t just about stunning spaces. The in-house catering team will work closely with you to craft a personalised menu that reflects your tastes, from dainty canapés to indulgent mains, made using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.
A range of wedding packages is available and fully customisable, with the support of a dedicated wedding planner to guide you through every detail. Whether you’re dreaming of an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, Burghley House offers timeless elegance, impeccable service and a setting that’s truly one of a kind.
