We headed out to SW19 and The Gatsby Club to test out the Keith Prowse hospitality offerings at this year’s Wimbledon 

Just as Serena Williams served it out to love and secured her semi-final spot with her win over Camilla Giorgi on day nine of The Championships, Wimbledon, the crowd flocked back to the Gatsby Club for afternoon tea. What day it is makes no difference to the atmosphere here, though – the lively off-site marquee serves up afternoon tea and dinner and is always packed with merry tennis enthusiasts. 

The large venue can host tables for between two and 14 people, with options of more up-scale and secluded areas (some will even be visited by championship players). There is also a large private dining room that can be hired exclusively or in groups.

With renowned chef Albert Roux OBE, alongside son Michael Roux Jr. and granddaughter Emily Roux, at the helm, the food is first-class. With a complimentary bar and bespoke cocktails, the tipple is free-flowing. And with a garden equipped with a large screen (as well as smaller indoor screens), you won’t miss a moment of what goes on at Centre Court.

We tested the afternoon tea slot (available between 4 and 7pm), and fair to say, we didn’t need any dinner that evening. The tea tray (shared between three people) was stacked with moreish sandwiches (our favourite was the classic cucumber on white bread), soft scones with clotted cream, and dangerously addictive petit fours. All are available for refill if needs be. Oh, and the option of traditional strawberries and cream to be brought to your table was on offer too (we didn’t say no).

We gulped it all down with champagne and Pimm’s as well as the specially designed cocktails – we could drink those raspberry gin cocktails for days. When only crumbs were left on our plates it was time to grab another cocktail and head out to the garden to watch the evening matches.

This is a great way to treat your colleagues or favourite clients to a day out, but it comes with a price tag. Tickets start at £500pp with final day tickets soaring £4925pp. Our advice? Be quick – spots sell out well in advance.
