Husband and wife Ajay and Shivani Kenth are the duo behind Zindiya, an Indian bar and streetfood restaurant, or ‘streatery’ in the heart of Moseley, Birmingham. Here, you'll find an immersive experience, offering a slice of life in India, where you can enjoy limca and chai, and eat chaat and gol gappe in a fun environment. Zindiya restaurant worked with local crafters and artists to decorate the space to be bright, immersive and fun, whilst remaining laid back.
The first section of the Zindiya menu ‘Chaat Street’ includes many delicious plates for you to enjoy. Try the samosa chaat pastries that are filled with vegetables, layered with spicy chickpeas, sev, pomegranate seeds, yoghurt, mint and coriander, or pan puri, which are India's most popular street snack. From the side selection, be sure to try the okra lady fingers marinated and fried in gram flour, the chilli chips in soya sauce with crunchy peppers and onions, or gunpowder potatoes with spring onions and coriander.
There are some really incredible a la carte dishes to choose from, including an aromatic prawn curry, crispy battered and fried fish with chaat masala, and crispy, golden and zingy wings that are flavoured with Indian spices and tossed in a chilli sauce. The chicken tikka burger is topped with mint and coriander chutney, served with a sprouting lentil salad, and is a British and Indian hybrid dish. The dhaba style curries utilise North India's flavours, and include some fantastic blends. Try the paneeri makhani with succulently cooked cottage cheese cubes in a creamy tomato sauce, lightly spiced and with a bit of sweetness, or the chana masala Punjabi staple with chickpeas simmered in a deliciously spicy, tangy gravy.
Zindiya is also known for its traditional high chai with a twist. Guests can delve into a range of tea blends, such as masala chai, jasmine green or English breakfast, alongside scones and sarnies packed full of Indian spices. Expect the likes of aloo tikki chaat potato cakes drizzled with yogurt and tamarind chutney, or bombay sandwiches packed full of mint chutney, masala spices, and plenty of veggies. On the sweet front, you can expect homemade cardamom scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, or spiced Indian shortbread biscuits.
