A laid back Chinese and South East Asian takeaway and neighbourhood restaurant on Harborne Street in Birmingham, Wok Chi is the place to be for comfort food. The interiors are simplistic and modern, as most of the focus lies with the food – just as it should be. Wok Chi is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but open the rest of the week. The team champions high quality and authenticity in everything they do, and are honest about their food sourcing, cooking and the food that reaches your tables. Wherever possible, the Wok Chi team, run by Alfie and Linda Choi, use fresh and natural ingredients, organic where possible.
Start your feast with crispy filo pastry rolls filled with white cabbage, carrot, spring onion, vermicelli, cucumber and muk yee mushroom, served with a sweet soy dip, or marinated and herb infused barbecued pork ribs with a choice of honey and lemon wedge or Cantonese fruity sauce. Tasty, right? King prawns are tossed in a crispy coating cooked with spices and onion, peppers, fresh chilli, garlic and coriander, and if spice is your thing, try the five spice salted and chilli firecracker chicken wings. Moving onto the warm bowls of soupy goodness, try the pan fried beef ramen soup with bean sprouts, spring onion and pak choi in a rich savoury broth, and you’ll wish the bowl would never end.
We love the sound of the lime and wasabi fried rice, tossed up in the wok with wasabi mustard, scallop, prawn, egg, spring onion, coriander and Japanese seaweed, served with a wedge of lime and a coriander soy drizzle, and would go full carb overload and order the szechuan spicy garlic and chilli stir fry with bamboo shoots and water chestnuts.
