If you’re looking for some seriously good seafood in Glasgow, then Two Fat Ladies is as good a place as any to satisfy your cravings. The food is splendid and the whole set-up is unpretentious, friendly and terrific value for money; there’s also an open kitchen at the front of the restaurant, so you can watch all the action. The pre/post-theatre menu offers plenty of choice, though cruising through the carte also pays dividends: you might savour Cullen skink, smoked mackerel pâté or grilled pilchards with dill and gherkin mayonnaise, before tackling mains of oatmeal-crusted whole lemon sole with lemon and caper butter or sea bass with Arbroath smokie cakes and mornay sauce. Meat fans might go for fillet of Scotch beef with pickled red cabbage and red wine jus, while desserts could yield traditional cranachan or toasted almond, ‘drunken cherry’ and pistachio ice cream roulade.
