Overlooking the picturesque Central Basin, Traders is an independent wine shop, café, bar and tasting room from the crew behind Pall Mall Fine Wine and Shepherd Market Wine House. Good stuff at approachable prices is the deal, served at sheltered outdoor tables, or indoors in a cobbled-together casual bar. Wines by the glass include top-flight white Priorat from Catalonia, an elegant rosé from Provence, or gutsy Sicilian Nero d’Avola – kept fresh in a Coravin system. Modestly marked-up bottles are part of a changing cast bought a few cases at a time to ensure there’s plenty to interest regulars. Patrician claret can cost over £100, but fizz such as Sussex sparkler Digby Leander Pink Brut, and Besserat de Bellefon Champagne (£55 including corkage) has a more manageable entry point. Alternatively, choose vermouth cocktails or craft beers (Beavertown brews, perhaps), and munch on charcuterie platters.
