Set on Lordship Lane in East Dulwich, The Victory is a thoughtfully reimagined neighbourhood pub from hospitality operator Jamie Younger, bringing together classic pub character and refined, ingredient-led cooking. Formerly known as Franklins, the site has been fully refurbished and returned to its original name, marking a new chapter for a long-standing local fixture.
At its heart, The Victory is a modern British pub with strong French bistro influences. The kitchen is led by executive chef Seán Breen, whose background includes Noble Rot and Henry Harris’ Hero of Maida Vale, and whose cooking places an emphasis on high-quality British produce handled with restraint. The menu is intentionally concise, beginning with simple snacks such as fresh baguette with butter, oysters mignonette and cured meats, before moving into starters like steak tartare with dripping toast, Cornish crab vinaigrette and bayonne ham with celeriac remoulade.
Mains focus on elevated bistro-style dishes, with regularly changing options alongside signature plates. A roast poulet jaune remains a constant, designed to share, while larger-format fish and beef dishes are also available for groups, reinforcing the pub’s communal spirit. Desserts lean classic, with dishes such as choux buns, fig leaf custard and a shareable baba au rhum that evolves with the seasons.
The drinks offering is anchored by a dedicated martini menu, featuring both classic serves and house variations, alongside a wide-ranging wine list with a focus on French regions. Low-intervention, organic and biodynamic wines sit comfortably next to more traditional styles, with extensive options by the glass.
Inside, The Victory balances contemporary simplicity with enduring pub details. A zinc-topped bar acts as the focal point, while polished wooden floors, vintage mirrors and bespoke joinery add warmth throughout. The downstairs dining room seats 70 guests, complemented by a more casual bar area with space for a further 40, making The Victory equally suited to relaxed drinks, casual lunches and long dinners.
