If you go down to the woods today, you'll find something better than a teddy bear's picnic: picturesuqe gastro-pub The Spotted Cow in Farnham. This beautiful country pub sits right beside a verdent woodland and paints a pretty picture in a heritage building, accented by flower boxes and arrangements, as well as a summer-ready glass conservatory.
Loved by locals (we spotted one review called in the gem of the area!) it brings together stylish interiors, a considered menu and a family-friendly vibe, welcoming children and even furry friends. The menu is inspired by a few pub classics, international favourites and a grill section, based mainly around an a la carte offering.
To begin with, the 'while you wait' section includes bread, olives and fragrant garlic bread, before moving onto the appetisers. While the menu is subject to change, especially with the seasons, starters might look like Cornish calamari and prawns, alongside fried halloumi with sweet chilli dip and salad, as well as authentic arancini, stuffed with risotto, Porcini mushrooms and covered in a Mascarpone parsley crumb.
For mains, there's plenty - in fact, almost too much choice. Classic mains include beer battered cod and thick cut chips, as well as pie of the day, and chicken ceaser salad. If the Med is calling, take a look at the skewers selection, each served with wine and salad. Not only is there chargrilled chicken with Peri Peri dip, but there's also salmon and prawns, grill halloumi and pork belly and chorizo.
The Spotted Cow also knows how to serve up a prime cut. The steak selection includes sirloin, ribeye and fillet, as well as a colourful mixed grill, which offers a little bit of everything. And, finally, if none of the above floats your boat, you'll love the creative oven-baked pizzas which have some glorious topping options. Think the Quattro Stagioni with black olives, artichoke and ham; delicious.
