The Pavilion Restaurant at Cirencester Park Polo Club is the kind of lunch spot that makes most sense as part of a day at the club: somewhere to settle in between matches, meet fellow members or turn a visit into more of an occasion. Overlooking the famous Ivy Lodge pitch, the restaurant has one of the club’s best vantage points, with the food and setting designed around eating, drinking and socialising.
The Pavilion has been home to Wesley Birch’s residency since April 2025, with a menu created by Birch and his team around local produce, alongside wines and drinks from across the country, including Champagne Pommery, one of the club’s sponsors. The lunch menu runs from midday to 3pm and covers everything from lighter dishes to a more leisurely three-course meal.
Starters include a twice-baked Godsell’s smoked cheddar soufflé, smoked salmon blini with beetroot and horseradish cream, and chicken liver parfait with bitter orange marmalade. There is also the brilliantly named ‘Prawn-On-The-Lawn’: toasted sourdough topped with prawns, garlic and chilli butter, avocado purée and salsa.
For something quick between chukkas, the club sandwich comes with smoked chicken, bacon and tomato, while the roast sirloin sandwich adds caramelised onions and black pepper mayonnaise. Larger mains include confit duck leg with braised red cabbage and crispy potato gratin, classic moules marinières, beer-battered fish and fries, and a butternut squash and spinach Wellington.
Sundays chime to quintessential British charm and nod happily to traditional roasts with roast sirloin of beef, chicken supreme, confit pork belly or the vegetable Wellington, all served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, vegetables and jus.
The club itself dates back to 1894, when it was inaugurated under the Seventh Earl Bathurst, while Ivy Lodge became a boarded ground in 1909, helping establish Cirencester as an important polo venue. Visitors are very much welcome but it's also appreciated if dress codes are respected.
