The North Star is a lively, food-focused pub in the middle of Brighton - but actually, it's much more than that. As well as good vibes and well curated menu served in an atmospheric setting, The North Star supports those with learning disabilities and autism who are struggling to navigate the world of work.
The North Star is the flagship venue of Team Domenica, a charity which uses hospitality spaces to encourage and guide those with learning difficulities in a professional environment, offering a combination of classroom education, enrichment activities and real-world experience. Gradually, this can help prepare those working with Team Domenica with the skills and confidence to build a career in hospitality - or out of it - for themselves.
It's a great place to get together with friends, family or colleagues - all are welcome, especially furry friends! Even if you're planning a function or event, The North Star comes into its own with a private room with capacity for 26 seated guests or 50 standing.
If however, you're just popping in for a drink or bite to eat, you can enjoy an all-day dining menu from Tuesday to Saturday, hero-ing wholesome, homemade dishes. The kitchen has great relationships with local suppliers and the dishes change with the seasons, but if you want an idea of what to expect check out the sample menu online.
For example, lunches might look like Bluebell woods venison sausages with braised red cabbage, mash and gravy, alongside an indulgent double White Park beef burger served in a seeded bun with options to add bacon and vintage cheddar cheese. For dinner, get stuck into starters like grilled Wye Valley asparagus with buffalo mozzarella and basil oil, followed by mains like the Gardeners Pie with parsnip, celeriac and puy lentils, suet pastry, spring greens and parsley sauce or specials such as 12 hour braised ox cheeks. For dessert, the brandy snaps with whipped ricotta and lemon sound cute as a button.
