The Masons Arms is a historic country pub in the village of Clanfield, Oxfordshire, offering elevated gastropub dining in a relaxed and cosy setting. Dating back to 1610, the building has long stood at the centre of village life, once serving as a coaching stop and now thoughtfully restored to retain its original character.
Inside, the space blends heritage features with a more refined finish. Exposed brick and stone walls sit alongside low, beamed ceilings, while a fireplace with a log burner creates a cosy focal point in cooler months. Wooden tables and chairs are set throughout, with leather bar stools lining the bar and quieter corners furnished with leather burgundy armchairs. A piano and softly lit nooks add to the sense of character, creating a warm atmosphere.
Outside, a charming beer garden adds to the appeal, with a pergola wrapped in climbing plants, old stone walls and plenty of surrounding greenery. Scattered tables and chairs to create a relaxed setting for alfresco dining during warmer months.
The kitchen focuses on produce-led, seasonal cooking, offering a modern take on classic British pub fare. The a la carte menu begins with small plates such as taramasalata with sourdough, spiced squash soup, beetroot with goat’s curd and pumpkin seeds, or Salt Pig charcuterie with cornichons and bread. Mains balance traditional favourites and more refined dishes, including ham, egg and chips, fish and chips, half roast chicken with lemon and parsley garlic, flat iron steak with cafe de Paris butter and haddock Monte Carlo. Sides include tenderstem broccoli, green salad and chips, with daily blackboard specials adding further variety.
Sundays are a highlight, with a dedicated menu of roasts including chicken, beef, ham loin or smoked aubergine, served with all the classic trimmings, followed by desserts such as sticky toffee pudding. Drinks include a curated selection of wines, alongside beers and soft drinks.
