The Long Arm Brewery & Tap Room

This eco-friendly pub and brewery is the brainchild of Tom and Ed Martin, who oversee the ETM group which also looks after nearby The Jugged Hare and Aviary to name a few. The buzzy space was brimming with City suits on our mid-week visit, keen to try The Long Arm Brewery & Tap Room’s take on brewing. The pub follows a ‘tank fresh’ approach thanks to its on-site micro-brewery – this means drinks are served directly from the tank, cutting out the need for bottles and packaging. It may come across as a gimmick, but we did find our IPA beer tasted fresher for it. Other options from punters to choose from include stout and ale, while there’s also a small-batch gin too. Food wise, there’s an impressive, if a little overpriced, menu of modern pub grub, including superfood salads for the health-conscious. From a selection of starting snacks, we chose crispy battered squid rings, and rich, warming mac ‘n’ cheese croquettes. Mains consist of burgers and hotdogs, paired with craft beers. We opted for the shorthorn cheese burger – two tender beef patties slathered in melted cheese and sandwiched between a soft brioche bun – and a side of thin, crispy French fries. There are no desserts at The Long Arm Brewery & Tap Room, so swap them out for a selection of beery cocktails, including the tart El Matador (Tequila, lime juice, agave nectar strawberry, basil and a lager top).

You won't find beer with rubbish additives, and shortcuts here, just pure, unfiltered craft beer at its best. Aside from the drinks, and a fabulous atmosphere, The Long Arm Brewery & Tap Room has a great menu to satisfy your cravings.

Smash burgers are all served on a sesame seeded bun, with your option to add fries. Choose from the classic British beef patty with American cheese, Lucky Penny onions, house pickled, ketchup and yellow mustard, a peanut butter and jelly option (made with maple bacon jam and peanut satay mayo), the Mediterranean lamb patty with harissa ketchup, fried chicken with kimchi slaw, or vegan garden burger. The sides are the perfect accompaniments to your burger, with options of loaded nachos, cauliflower wings with gochujang Korean sauce, a wedge Caesar salad and hash brown tater tots.

If you've got room for something sweet, order the sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel and vanilla ice cream, or a Belgian chocolate brownie with clotted cream ice cream and chocolate sauce. It's not just beers that you'll find at the bar, either, with plenty of delicious cocktails to choose from. The Peach Iced Tea is made with Hennessy VS cognac, Spirited Union Good Spice rum, peach liqueur, lemon, Earl Grey tea and sugar, plus there’s a perfectly balanced Tangerine Sour whipped up with Chase gin, Lillet Blanc, tangerine liqueur, honey, lemon, tangerine and vanilla, and all the classics – Espresso Martini, Margarita, Zombie, and The Long Arm Brewery & Tap Room twists on an Old Fashioned and Cosmopolitan.
