Call The Lamb Inn at Crawley to make a booking on:
Perched above a quaint Cotswolds crossroads in tiny Crawley, The Lamb is a village pub with real culinary pedigree. Owners Matt and Rachel Weedon are country-house dining pros, with the accolades to prove it. Here, though, they offer down-to-earth British food in keeping with the setting – a cosy local with low ceilings, rough stone walls and jet-black beams. Matt makes good use of the district’s small-batch farmers and artisan producers, creating the likes of venison liver on brioche with girolles and pheasant’s egg; or mixed grill of lamb, blushing pink alongside pea purée, roasted tomatoes, mash and wild garlic. Butter’s a highlight too, cultured and churned a few miles away. Yet local provenance isn’t exclusively pursued: evidenced by spanking-fresh sea bream with roasted-tomato fish soup; and a spectacular banana soufflé with almond popcorn and banana sorbet. Fairly priced wines, hyper-local ales, and gracious service also count in the Lamb’s favour.
