West Coast Hospitality is the powerful team behind The Kirkmichael Arms - a charming and beloved village pub where you can gather with those you love and enjoy delicious, hearty meals that celebrate the best of local flavours and produce. This traditional country pub offers the best of Scotland's land and sea, with bar food, a main menu, and options for vegetarians and vegans, and children.
Small plates include stout roasted onion focaccia with pickled aubergine, some delicious Loch Ryan venison empanadas and Tom Yum pork scratchings with crudites and nam prik ong. The team have recommended wines and cocktails to go with each dish, right through to the mains, including a decadent Pampelle Spritz, punchy Ginger Margarita and Lochlea Bobby Burns. The fine dining dishes continue well into the starters, with options of heirloom beetroot paired with Errington goat's curd and blood orange, and Lochnagar cheddar gnocchi with duck ragu, bacon and shiitake.
We'd find it hard to choose out of the fantastic mains on offer, which include the midnight ravioli made with ricotta, brown butter, sage, purple broccoli, golden raisins and walnuts. There's a perfectly cooked hake confit in rosemary beeswax smoked leeks with Shetland mussels and bronze fennel, and slow-roasted pork rib with fermented cabbage, Paris mash, black pudding and apple mustard.
The food is more casual and familiar when it comes to the children's menu, which we know will go down well with little guests. There's a Scotch beef hamburger, cheeseburger, crispy chicken goujons, creamy mac and cheese and battered haddock with lemon, tartare sauce, French fries and steamed vegetables. For dessert, they'll have options of strawberry, chocolate or vanilla ice cream, and a sticky toffee pudding.
