About

Set amid the tranquil countryside of Wiltshire’s Woodford Valley, just a short drive from Stonehenge, The Great Bustard is a stunning country inn that blends relaxed rural hospitality with elevated, seasonal dining. The restaurant, housed within this sympathetically restored 19th-century coaching inn, offers a thoughtfully crafted menu rooted in its surroundings.

Led by Head Chef Jordan Taylor, the kitchen draws heavily on ingredients sourced from the surrounding Great Durnford Estate, alongside trusted West Country producers. This field-to-fork ethos runs through the menu, where bold British flavours are presented with understated finesse. Expect the likes of roast wood-fired trout, estate venison, hand-folded game ravioli, and honey-glazed co, dishes that showcase both creativity and a respect for provenance.

The dining room itself is light and airy, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the wildflower-strewn gardens and Wiltshire’s open fields, bringing the outside in and echoing the natural simplicity of the cooking. For more informal dining, the adjoining pub offers a comforting, rustic alternative, with deep leather armchairs, log fires, and hearty classics like venison burgers, croquettes, game rillette, and sourdough pizzas made with local cheeses. In the warmer months, the walled courtyard garden comes into its own. Surrounded by lavender, tall grasses, and herb beds, it’s an ideal spot to enjoy a laid-back lunch, wood-fired pizza, or early evening drinks under a pergola.

The drinks list is equally thoughtful, with locally brewed ales, infused spirits made in-house, and a cellar that includes the estate’s own Otarda red wine from Tuscany, alongside rare bottles selected for their depth and character.

With its balance of refined cooking and countryside charm, The Great Bustard offers a dining experience that is rooted in place, season and story, ideal for a long lunch, celebratory dinner, or relaxed afternoon in the garden.
