Just a few minutes from Harlesden tube station, located on the Grand Union Canal, is the Grand Junction Arms – a pub with the biggest (and what they regard as the best) beer garden in North London. It's just the spot to relax with your family and a roast on a Sunday, or kick back with friends and a pint after work when Friday rolls around.
Small plates on the main menu include a tasty pork and apple sausage roll, which we think would go down a treat with a nice cold cider. Start your main meal with the beef croquettes and garlic mayo, a bowl of breaded whitebait, or the chilli, ginger, squash and coconut soup with plenty of sourdough bread to mop it up. If you're dining with a group of two to three, choose one of the shareables, like the camembert, nachos or loaded fries with pulled pork. The main menu features most of the pub classics that you'd expect, including a West Country rump steak with triple cooked chips and green peppercorn sauce, a beef and Guinness pie with mashed potato, hispi cabbage and gravy, and a wild mushroom and truffle risotto with parmesan cheese.
We'd find it hard to resist pudding, as there's something for everyone on this menu. An English heritage apple and plum crumble, sticky toffee and date pudding, chocolate brownie and creme brulee all feature. On a Sunday there's the addition of traditional roasts, all served with roast potatoes, maple roasted carrots, hispi cabbage, spring greens, creamed leeks and peas, double egg Yorkshire pudding and Junction smoked gravy – sounds tasty, right? You've got a choice of West Country rump of beef, lemon and thyme roast chicken, spring green and courgette Wellington and Dingley Dell pork belly.
