About

The Gothic Crab is located on Madeira Place, in the heart of Kemptown, one of the city’s most vibrant and eclectic neighbourhoods known for its independent shops, lively nightlife and close proximity to the seafront. Just a short walk from Brighton Beach and the bustling promenade, the restaurant sits within an area popular with both locals and visitors, surrounded by boutique hotels, cafés and bars that contribute to Kemptown’s distinctive character.

The Gothic Crab is Brighton’s first dedicated seafood boil house, offering a bold and unconventional take on seafood dining. The restaurant’s interior embraces a dark, gothic-inspired aesthetic, combining moody décor with upbeat music to create a lively, theatrical atmosphere. This sets the tone for a dining experience that is deliberately hands-on, social and full of personality.

The menu centres on Cajun-style seafood boils, a communal feast in which shellfish such as king prawns, mussels, langoustines and crab are cooked with corn on the cob, potatoes and Cajun-style sausage, then tossed in a choice of house sauces. These boils are served directly to the table for guests to share, encouraging a relaxed, interactive style of eating. Alongside the signature boils, the menu features a range of locally sourced seafood dishes, including fresh oysters, calamari, lobster burgers, chilled seafood platters and Singapore chilli crab, as well as small plates and classic aperitifs for lighter visits.

The restaurant emphasises a fun, unpretentious approach to dining - bibs are provided, cracking claws is encouraged, and the focus is firmly on flavour and enjoyment. With its central Kemptown location, distinctive gothic design and bold Cajun-influenced seafood offering, The Gothic Crab has quickly become one of Brighton’s most unique and memorable seafood destinations, appealing to diners seeking something lively, immersive and different from the city’s traditional fish restaurants.
