The Castle is an independent gastro pub in Farnham town centre. Its bar and lounge offer a relaxing escape from the busy high street, especially in one of the numerous secluded nooks and corners dotted throughout.
The dining room has a bright, airy feel thanks to an elegant central skylight and sizeable windows. In summer, drinks are best enjoyed in the courtyard, a beautifully decorated gastro pub take on a beer garden, complete with covered seating and heaters.
The Castle uses a seasonally rotating main menu complemented by a daily changing specials board, with dishes that are typically modern updates of classic pub food. Nibbles are ideal alongside drinks, with options including tempura calamari, halloumi fries, and marinated mixed olives. The small plates work equally well as a snack or a starter, with soup of the day, sweet pea and mint ravioli, and tempura king prawns all on offer.
Mains are split into seasonal and classics. The seasonal range reflects The Castle's commitment to local, seasonal produce from the surrounding Hampshire countryside, with dishes such as Hampshire smoked trout fish pie, pan-seared cod loin with saffron new potatoes, and slow-roasted confit duck leg served with dauphinoise potatoes and sautéed greens. The classics range lives up to its name, featuring steak and ale pie, steak burger, and haddock and chips.
