SquareMeal Review of The Cambridge Street Kitchen

Bronze Award

Located in London’s Artist Residence – one of a small group of slightly wacky but very British boutique hotels – this all-day café-restaurant is a boon to Pimlico, where dining options remain scant. Edgy decor (including neon signage) brings a taste of east London, but instead of dude food you’ll find a crowd-pleasing menu of British classics and a mostly French wine list. To start, small pan-fried scallops were lent substance by black pudding and apple sauce, though beetroot salad with goats’ curd needed more orange dressing. Next came soft-shell crab burger inside an on-trend brioche bun, but we lamented not choosing the big and juicy beef option. Perfectly cooked sea bass was complemented by modish charred cauliflower with chilli and capers. For pud, tuck into spruced-up classics such as elderflower posset or Jaffa chocolate torte. This self-styled ‘all-day neighbourhood space’ will doubtless be welcomed by guests of the area’s many hotels.
