Set within The Lime Tree Hotel, The Buttery is a charming café-restaurant that makes the most of Belgravia's leafy residential feel. Housed in a Grade II-listed townhouse just off Elizabeth Street, the space combines original period features like high ceilings, romantic fireplaces and the occasional creaky floorboard, with a lighter, more contemporary touch. Out the back, a walled garden provides a rare bit of outdoor space for central London, particularly popular when the weather allows and it turns into a bustling suntrap.
The Buttery focuses on daytime dining: the kitchen closes late afternoon so this is a great place to stop by for coffees, breakfast, brunch and lunch. Mornings are the main event here, with locals gathering for their morning brew and menu of brunch favourites. There's The Buttery Breakfast which covers all the essentials: smoked streaky bacon, Cumberland sausage, eggs cooked to preference, mushroom, tomato, layered roast potato and butter beans, served with sourdough. Alongside it, shakshuka offers something a little lighter, with spiced tomato sauce, poached eggs, yoghurt, leek oil and dukkah.
There’s also a sweeter side to the menu. Nutella French toast comes topped with mascarpone, cherry compote, strawberries and toasted hazelnuts, while baked cookie dough is served warm with white chocolate, raspberry and vanilla ice cream. Planning a get-together with the girls? Breakfast cocktails are available too, from a classic Mimosa or Bloody Mary to a glass of Drappier Rosé Champagne.
For lunch, you could try the Tassos’s prawn toast which pairs chopped prawns with sesame, chilli and a fried egg, while pulled beef on toast is served with barbecue sauce, pickled red cabbage and a crisp galette potato. You can't go wrong with a classic chicken Caesar salad, and then there's the chickpea salad bowl with avocado, vegetables, poached egg and toasted almonds which is perfect for vegetarian diners.
