Nestled on Victoria Street in the picturesque village of Bourton-on-the-Water, Smith’s of Bourton is a stylish boutique burger bar and cocktail lounge set amid the iconic honey-coloured Cotswold stone buildings.
Founded by brothers Sebastian and Theo Smith during the pandemic, the venue quickly became known for its punchy flavour profiles and casual, intimate dining atmosphere with around 30 covers. The interior cleverly blends the building’s original character - cosy fireplace, flagged flooring, low ceilings - with modern décor and warm lighting, creating a relaxed yet buzzing ambience perfect for date nights or relaxed meals after exploring Bourton’s River Windrush-lined High Street.
The menu is centred on handcrafted burger patties - dry-aged beef supplied by Aubrey Allen and charcoal-pressed buns from Mark’s Cotswold Bakery, made daily using locally milled flour. Signature beef options include the award-shortlisted ‘Mr P’ (3rd in the National Burger Awards 2025), ‘the smiths classic’ with smoked bacon and burnt-butter miso mayo, and the indulgent ‘bearnaise bad boy.’ There’s even a ‘symplicity is key’ patty for vegetarians and vegans, created from mushroom, onion and beetroot with vegan cheese and kale. Sides range from loaded truffle-shuffle fries and mac and cheese, to rainbow slaw and buffalo chicken tenders, while regular, Cajun and truffle mayo fries round out the selection. Children can enjoy their own burger or chicken-strip meals, and allergy-friendly, gluten-free bun options ensure inclusive dining.
The bar offers a vibrant cocktail list with sumptuous signature creations like ‘Stockholm syndrome’ and ‘orion’ sitting alongside timeless classics such as Negronis, espresso martinis and Old Fashioneds.
This community favourite also welcomes walk-ins for lunch. Smith’s of Bourton stands out as one of Bourton-on-the-Water’s most exciting casual dining venues, and is a must-visit for burger enthusiasts.
