There are two Six by Nico restaurants to visit in Edinburgh, with the Edinburgh West location on Queensferry Street. Near to the Ross Fountain, and not too far from Edinburgh Castle and other popular tourist spots, Six by Nico is a great spot to enjoy fantastic cuisine at a reasonable price. The idea behind Six by Nico is that the menus change every six weeks, bringing a new six course tasting menu that focuses on a theme, concept or location. Some past themes have been Guilty Pleasures, Circus and Once Upon A Time.
If you've always wanted to take a step back in time, to when things were a little more simple, hurry to enjoy the Nostalgia menu – which is available until the end of the month. The first course is named after the beloved Blockbuster that is no more, with aged comte, hazelnut and serrano ham tacos. Next up, it's the Toadstool, made with roasted maitake, smoked celeriac, cep gnocchi, lovage, truffle and sherry cappuccino.
If you're not an outdoorsy person, don't let course three, Let's Go Camping, put you off – there’s no need to don your hiking boots for this one. Enjoy a smoked pork sausage with aged belly, red pepper romesco, nasturtium and almond, before everyone's favourite, Fish Fingers, for the fourth course. These posh fish fingers are made with barbecue coley, miso carrot and lobster emulsion and served with a shellfish bisque and salted kumquat. Course five is titled Guess Who, and so the contents of your plate remain a mystery. Last but not least, Snowball Fight! A dessert of coconut parfait, lime gel, 55% chocolate and yoghurt snow. As always, there’s the option to add on matching cocktails or wine.
