Situated in the lively Colmore Row district, Six by Nico delivers a dining experience that’s anything but ordinary. Here, the menu isn’t just a list of dishes, it’s a fully-formed concept, dreamed up by award-winning chef Nico Simeone and brought to life with imagination and precision. Every six weeks, the entire six-course tasting menu is replaced with a new theme, inspired by a place, story or idea. It’s part theatre, part culinary adventure and, crucially, very good food.
Currently on the pass: Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. It’s a whimsical, surreal journey down the rabbit hole, where nothing is quite as it seems and every dish is a twist on something familiar. Things kick off with a Chicken Fat Doughnut soaked in roast juices, an opener that’s more roast dinner than dessert. Next up, the Caterpillar’s Secret Garden, a plate of smoky cabbage and potato terrine served under a veil of garden herbs and gentle theatrics.
The courses continue with Paint the Roses Red, a vibrant beetroot and goats cheese parfait, and Breakfast in Disguise - black pollock with egg yolk jam and black pudding, reimagined as a sunny-side-up breakfast. The savoury pinnacle of the menu might just be Off With His Head - a crisp pig’s head croquette with apple and mustard mousseline that’s rich, tangy and deeply satisfying. Then, finally, the tea party wraps up with Jam First, Logic Later - a dessert featuring a burnt toast delice, jammy dodger, strawberries and tea ganache. It’s sweet, strange, and kind of brilliant.
The wine pairings are optional but worth it, each glass matched thoughtfully to the dish, from Romanian Muscat to Cava from Cataluña. The setting itself is stylish yet relaxed, with a team that’s well-drilled but never too serious.
Whether you're a food obsessive, a curious diner, or just someone looking for something a little different, Six by Nico Birmingham offers a fresh take on dinner with one story, six courses, every six weeks. But be quick: miss it once, and the next chapter will already have begun.
