Salon Madre is a tequila bar, pool hall and Mexican street food hangout tucked into the Kampus neighbourhood of Manchester, right next door to its sister restaurant, Madre. With its neon glow, retro interiors and high-energy vibe, it channels the spirit of a Mexico City dive bar, a little gritty, colourful and unapologetically fun.
The menu is a riot of bold flavours and laid-back bites. Al pastor tacos are a staple, made with spit-grilled pork and served daily alongside rotating taco specials. Gringas (cheese-stuffed tortillas) are crisp and gooey, while Cadillac nachos come piled high with cheese sauce, pickled jalapeños, onions and all the salsas. Burritos are hand-pressed and generously filled with refried beans, fresh cheese, cabbage and house-made salsa madre. For something heartier, ramen bowls like birria beef or cochinita pork offer a rich, spicy twist on comfort food.
Drinks are just as playful. Frozen margaritas come in flavours like electric watermelon with Sichuan peppercorns or banana miso, while riffs on palomas include hibiscus and pear. Jarritos sodas, Mexican lagers and draft wines round out the list, keeping the party flowing from afternoon into the early hours.
Inside, the space is cast in a vibrant red hue, with a large pink-hued bar, neon green chairs and Mexican-inspired signage. The aesthetic is purposefully grungy, part basement dive, part pool hall, with intimate seating nooks and four pool tables that anchor the room. Lucha Libre wrestling and American sports play on screens overhead, adding to the rowdy, celebratory atmosphere.
Salon Madre isn’t just a bar, it’s a mood. Whether you’re smashing tacos, sipping tequila or lining up your next pool shot, it’s a place where the music’s loud, the food’s fiery and the good times roll.
