This vibrant restaurant and bar in Edinburgh’s southern district brings the flavours of Latin America to the neighbourhood of Bruntsfield. Specialising in bold sharing plates and killer cocktails, Saffron is a fun and trendy place to head from day to night, whether it’s for a tasty lunch of tacos and tortilla chips, or somewhere to catch-up over a cocktail or two. With its bright neon signage and colourful Aztec-style interiors, you can’t miss it!
The menu is focused around sharing-style dishes, and features a range of small and large plates, burgers, specials and sides. To start, you might choose from the likes of fried lamb croquettes with Tajin mayonnaise, or sweet potato fritters with spiced courgette puree and pineapple salsa. There are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu, making it an easy option for everyone. Large plates revolve around tacos, burgers and fajitas. Try its taco de pollo, which features chicken tinga, pico de gallo, shredded cos lettuce and Tajin mayo, or opt for a burger filled with sweet potato, garlic aioli and chipotle sauce.
Don’t miss its ‘Saffron Specials’ for something a bit different, which includes its famous marinated skewers (choose between vegetables, pineapple and halloumi or chicken and chorizo) which are marinated in chimichurri and served with ranchero sauce. To finish, there’s only one dessert: churros tossed in cinnamon sugar and served with hot chocolate sauce.
Drinks also play a starring role and you’ll find a huge selection of classic, signature and sharing cocktails. Unique creations include the likes of the Callente made with pineapple tequila, ancho chilli liqueur, Cointreau and lime. While a concise list of wines, beers and spirits completes the offering.
