Rooted in Uddingston combines family-friendly dining with imaginative indoor play, creating a space where parents can properly relax over good food while children explore, climb and play nearby. Blending Scottish and Italian-inspired cooking with a calmer, more design-led approach to family dining, the restaurant works for everything from casual lunches and celebrations to weekend breakfasts and Sunday roasts.
The space itself has been carefully designed around families. Alongside the dining room is a large indoor play area filled with climbing frames, slides, sensory activities, ball pits, doll’s houses and role play spaces, including a miniature Little Roots cafe. Natural materials and softer colours give it a gentler feel than a traditional soft play centre, while the layout allows adults to dine comfortably without feeling separated from the children.
Menus span breakfast, lunch, dinner and sharing Sunday roasts, with food made fresh in-house each day. Breakfast includes full Scottish and vegetarian breakfasts, eggs Benedict, avocado on toast and pancakes with a range of toppings. Through the day, the menu moves into paninis, soups, salads, pizzas, burgers and pasta dishes, alongside larger mains such as ham hock carbonara, braised beef and Scottish haddock served in a signature Irn-Bru batter with skin-on fries. Desserts include tiramisu and ice cream, while drinks range from coffees and soft drinks to cocktails, wines and beers.
Sunday roast boards at Rooted are designed for sharing, featuring beef, gammon and chicken served with roast potatoes, root vegetables, giant Yorkshire puddings and gravy, with both adult and children’s versions available. A dedicated kids menu goes beyond the usual options with dishes such as mushroom carbonara, macaroni al forno, haddock and chips and pizzettes. Inside, the restaurant feels light, bright and contemporary, with wooden floors, neutral decor, greenery and large arched mirrors softening the family-focused space.
