Located in Bearsdon a few miles north east of Glasgow city centre, Monadh Kitchen is a friendly neighbourhood restaurant serving seasonal Scottish cuisine with a contemporary twist. It is run by husband and wife team Martin Thliveros and Sharlene Harvey – Martin heading up the kitchen and Sharlene running the front of house. The restaurant operates on a local and seasonal level, sourcing quality ingredients and making an effort to make almost everything it can in-house (apart from the bread!). The calibre of cooking at this local gem has been recognised by the Michelin Guide who have awarded it one of its Bib Gourmands, an accolade delivered to restaurants that offer good quality food at an affordable price.
Monadh Kitchen offers a daily Taste of Scotland lunch menu, as well as an la carte offering for lunch and dinner. The dishes change often in relation to seasonality and availability, but examples of starters might include confit Shetland mackerel rillette with pickled fennel salad and fennel biscuit, and lemon thyme marinated courgette with British asparagus, ricotta cheese, toasted hazelnuts and pickled onions.
Main courses feature the likes of chargrilled pork cutlet with crispy pork shoulder, peas, broad beans, hispi cabbage, minted Jersey Royal potatoes, apple puree and red wine sauce, with vegetarian options also on the table, such as linguine with wild garlic and baby leeks, parmesan sauce and parmesan crisp.
Conclude with something classic and indulgent such as sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce, hazelnut biscuit, and homemade vanilla ice cream. Do note that there is also a children’s menu available, with two or three course options available all year round.
The interiors are smart and pared back so as to keep the focus on the food with dark wooden floors, tables and seating making up the majority of the space.
