Located in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, Maneki Ramen is a Tokyo-inspired Japanese noodle bar serving modern interpretations of ramen and small plates. Cool, cosy and full of character, the space is designed for everything from casual lunches to group dinners, with tiled bar seating, wooden tables, leather booths and outdoor spots that work well for birthdays, dates, and family meals.
Inside, the decor combines exposed brick, natural wood and soft lighting. Delicate rattan lanterns cast a warm, ambient glow, while the open kitchen and chef’s table provide a great view of the chefs at work as steaming bowls are prepared. Walk-ins are welcome, though it’s best to book ahead for groups.
The menu is curated by head chef Pete Dovaston, who trained in Tokyo, New York and China. Expect traditional Japanese techniques paired with seasonal British produce. Ramen options include roast duck, kimchi chicken, tonkotsu pork and vegan mushroom miso. Small plates range from karaage chicken and Korean-style tofu to tonkatsu pork belly and fried Maneki wings. Larger dishes include katsu curry, pumpkin chashu and duck yaki soba. There's also a Tokyo express lunch menu, offering a range of smaller bowls at a more affordable price point.
Drinks include beer, wine, natural wines, cocktails and soft drinks. A kids’ menu, highchairs, baby changing and free Wi-Fi make it a great choice for families. For modern Japanese food in Birmingham, Maneki Ramen delivers flavour, style and atmosphere in equal measure.
