About

Nestled within the historic Sherborne House in Dorset, Macready’s offers a refined yet approachable dining experience in one of the region’s most characterful settings. The restaurant uses fresh Dorset produce creating a varied menu of seasonal dishes.

The restaurant is named in honour of the celebrated 19th-century actor William Charles Macready, who lived in the house and famously entertained literary greats like Charles Dickens and William Makepeace Thackeray. Macready’s is part of The Sherborne, a beautifully restored arts and community hub located in the heart of Sherborne, just a short stroll from the town centre and mainline railway station. The restaurant itself is stylishly designed, featuring marble-topped tables, coral banquette seating and vibrant hand-drawn wallpaper by Adam Ellis Studio. This elegant interior sets the tone for a relaxed and welcoming dining experience.

The menu, overseen by head chef George Marsh, showcases fresh, seasonal ingredients with an emphasis on local Dorset produce. Starters and mains reflect a modern British sensibility, with highlights such as Portland crab linguine, pan-fried hake served with Jerusalem artichoke risotto, and a Bagnell Farm beef burger accompanied by truffle mayonnaise and celeriac remoulade. Vegetarian dishes, including ratatouille with spiced butternut squash and sweet potato mash, are thoughtfully prepared to appeal to all palates.

The dessert selection, curated in collaboration with local baker Terry Hawrylak, offers indulgent finishes like peanut butter parfait and apricot flapjacks. A carefully considered drinks list, including local wines and spirits, complements the menu.

Service at Macready’s is led by restaurant manager William Scott-Masson, whose team is known for its attentive and friendly approach. Macready’s blends cultural heritage with modern British cuisine, making it an ideal choice for both casual dining and special occasions in the heart of Sherborne.
