SquareMeal Review of Le Querce

Bronze Award

A child-friendly café by day and a good-value, welcoming restaurant by night, Le Querce is the ideal neighbourhood joint. At lunchtime, mums and their bambini pack the small front terrace and café tables, enticed by a short menu of bruschette and pastas (less than £7 including a drink). Evenings see a more grown-up crowd, with tables in the cosy back room filling first. Ingredients are top notch: a starter of burrata comes with beautifully charred aubergine; lamb chops are full of flavour, their fat grilled to perfection. The open kitchen also produces top-quality pasta, pizzas (Tuesdays to Thursdays only) and myriad ice creams and sorbets, with flavours including pumpkin and amaretto, aubergine, and wild fennel seed. There’s a branch in Blackheath, but the Brockley original is more inviting.

I have been there the 24 October 2012 to celebrate my birthday whit my Partner and my Special Friends and… It has been a huge success!!! We have been totally amazed, we have had a beautiful unforgettable evening!!! Excellent Service, Excellent Food and the atmosphere… They are so, so nice, so, so warm… The whole scenario is like having a trip in Sardinia where there are Mom, Auntie and Grandmother spoiling you with the all amazing, simple genuine and tasty Sardinian treats!!! We will be going there again and again and again… Le Querce is so REAL!!!

Booked a birthday party of 14 in for a Sunday lunchtime. Although the tone of those I spoke to on the phone was disinterested the service made up for its lack of joviality by being helpful and efficient. Ordering off-menu for the two kids, patient in giving us plenty of time to order, explaining the specials in some depth and managing to serve 12 main course at the same time. I had eaten with them before in Blackheath and the food was just as good as I remembered, notably the seafood and the pizzas. Everyone remarked on the deliciousness. The prices are good for the quality and portions were generous. Discounting the two kids, the bill came to about £30 a head for three courses and wine/beer. The premises are disconcerting – from the outside it looks like a greasy spoon – but inside it is charming.
