About

From the owner of The Woolpack comes Juliet, an old-world Modern European restaurant in Stroud. Renowned artist and hospitality mastermind, Daniel Chadwick, is bringing casual, French bistro-style dining to this unassuming town, complete with linen-draped tables and a bright-white paint job.

Chadwick’s visionary eye for design incorporates second-hand materials into the interiors, including recycled leather and pre-loved glassware. The layout is simple with two rows of seating running along the bar and the window. The stripped-back configuration complements a rustic, ingredient-led menu with seasonal food taking centre stage. Juliet works with local farmers and butchers to source produce from within a short supply chain as well as from their walled garden in Lypiatt Park. The drinks follow suit with their gin and vodka provided by the first female-founded B-corp distillery and the wine expert Ophélie Théberge creating a list of artisanal organic and biodynamic varieties.

Offering all-day dining, Juliet opens from 9:30am Monday to Saturday kicking off with coffee and freshly baked pastries. The a la carte menu is ideal for sharing, including appetisers like Cantabrian anchovies and small plates like beef tartare and winter tomatoes with stracciatella. Larger plates from the grill include lamb cutlets with puntarelle alla romana and Anjou pigeon with charcuterie sauce. Their sophisticated style will transport you to the streets of Paris in one refined bite.

Juliet has gone to lengths to cultivate a responsible ethos, from their whole-butchery approach, to their investment in staff training, to tracking their energy footprint, to having their uniforms designed by a small, ethical manufacturer. Their progressive attitude to hospitality combined with their tribute to traditional French dining creates an exciting yet relaxed environment that’ll have you arriving for a morning madeleine and leaving after dark.
