Jai Ho is an Indian restaurant in Bishop’s Cleeve inspired by the vibrant street food culture and bold flavours of Bombay. Awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide, the restaurant focuses on accessible Indian cooking served in a lively neighbourhood setting, with dishes designed to be shared among friends, family or colleagues.
Inside, the decor is rich and colourful, with patterned wallpaper featuring bird motifs set against dark green walls. A large wraparound bar finished with green tiling forms the focal point of the room beneath pendant lighting, while wooden tables and brown leather booth seating create a comfortable dining space.
The menu centres on Indian small plates that arrive at the table as they are prepared, encouraging diners to order a variety of dishes. Starters include chat bombs filled with tamarind sauce, chickpeas and yoghurt, lamb samosas and chilli chicken, alongside vegetarian plates such as bang bang cauliflower.
From the grill, dishes highlight meats cooked over charcoal, including barbecue lamb chops and masala-rubbed chicken skewers. Larger plates include rice dishes and traditional curries. Options range from house chicken biryani to Murgh butter masala, fish of the day curry and ghost palak, a slow-cooked lamb dish with spinach. Vegetarian choices include kadai paneer, Indian cheese cooked in a spiced tomato sauce. Sides such as okra fries and gunpowder potatoes complete the spread.
For groups, the restaurant also offers a feast menu designed for sharing. This multi-course experience begins with snacks before moving into a first wave of dishes such as barbecue tandoor butter prawns. A second wave follows with a selection of curries and biryanis accompanied by sides.
The drinks list includes cocktails, mocktails, beer, cider and soft drinks. Cocktails feature options such as the Picante, Strawberry and Lycheetini and the Indian Mule. Alcohol-free choices include drinks such as mango lassi and fruit punch.
