Set deep in the countryside not far from Offa’s Dyke, the ancient Hunter’s Moon was built to house medieval stonemasons working on the nearby church. This is a pub that takes drinks seriously, so
browse your way through a boozy line-up that might include beers from Wye Valley Brewery, Kingstone Press cider, draught Leffe Blonde and fine wines from Tanners of Shrewsbury – plus a decent
selection of whiskies. Traditional trappings abound: sink into one of the sofas in the ‘grotto’ (whitewashed stone walls, country pine furniture, irregular beams) or pitch up at the bar for a chat
with the drinkers. In summer, enjoy the leafy garden, meander by the stream and listen to the birds – or sit under a parasol and gaze at the local churchyard. Walkers take note: there is a drying
room for your wet belongings.
