It's well worth navigating your way through Nottingham's fiendish one-way system to reach this tucked-away, cul-de-sac location. While you'll still find lone businessmen from next-door Hart's Hotel tapping away on their laptops, the soft banquettes, booths and gentle lighting mean it's an equally attractive proposition for young couples. Creamy chicken liver parfait is balanced well with tart kumquat and spiced monkfish with pickled-mushroom risotto show off the kitchen's skills to good effect, likewise impeccably roasted rib of beef served with smoked potato, confit carrots and horseradish. Stop in for afternoon tea, with sweet treats courtesy of Hambleton Bakery (Hart's sister company) and maybe while away the hours exploring the restaurants extensive wine list. Service comes courtesy of an immaculately drilled front-of-house team – no surprise, given that owner Tim Hart also runs magnificent Hambleton Hall in Rutland.

A somewhat mixed review

Following confusion over whether our booking was for afternoon tea or not it put us in quite an embarrassing situation which wasn't helped by staff constantly looking at us and checking bookings and then calling the manager to speak to us fortunately the manager saw why this was disconcerting and rectified the issue with no further ado.

Room not as per pictures on website - maybe decor change and a duster is called for

Plenty to eat tasty and enjoyable

I dined at this restaurant yesterday, having visited Hambleton Hall on several occasions and with the same owner I had high expectations. I wasn't disappointed the food was excellent. I started with the Harts Salad, simple but delicious perfect for the warm weather. For main I opted for the Monk Fish, the fish was cooked to perfection but it didn't need the chicken nugget in my opinion as the potatoes and salsa were beautiful. Sadly no time for desert but I shall return. Service was relaxed and in the most part attentive. Good value for money and in a good location on minutes from the City Centre and adjacent to the Castle.
