A Notting Hill institution since 1983, Hafez Restaurant is one of London’s longest-standing and most beloved Persian restaurants. Tucked away on Hereford Road, this family-run gem has been serving authentic Iranian cuisine for over four decades, earning a loyal following for its warm hospitality and beautifully prepared dishes.
At the heart of the kitchen is Chef Farshid Ziafat, one of the UK’s most respected Persian chefs. His commitment to traditional recipes, fresh ingredients and aromatic flavours defines a menu that celebrates the vibrant culinary heritage of Iran.
Starters include marinated olives, creamy hummus, and kashk-e-bademjan - a slow-cooked aubergine dish with yoghurt and mint. Mains feature charcoal-grilled lamb and chicken skewers, marinated lamb tenderloin, and delicately spiced grilled sea bass. There are also vegetarian options such as baby aubergine stewed with saffron and tomatoes, alongside speciality rice dishes and fresh salads.
Desserts meanwhile offer up homemade pomegranate ice cream, saffron ice cream, and sholeh zard, a traditional set rice dessert made with saffron, pistachio, rosewater and cardamom. As for the drinks, we’d recommend traditional teas and a speciality mint sherbet cordial, and if you’re looking for something more refreshing, there’s a traditional yoghurt-based doorgh.
The interior is charmingly eclectic, with exposed brick walls, oak booth seating, and tiled floors. A mix of mismatched art, patterned lampshades, Persian fabrics and an eccentric collection of cutlery on the walls—forks, knives and spoons—adds playful character to the space. The restaurant seats up to 70 guests indoors, with additional pavement seating for 10–12 people. A 10% cover charge applies to groups of 10 or more.
Open daily for lunch and dinner, Hafez Restaurant is ideal for romantic evenings, relaxed lunches or family meals. Whether you’re planning a group dinner in Notting Hill or discovering Persian cuisine for the first time, Hafez offers a truly flavourful and memorable experience.
