SquareMeal Review of Fryer's Delight

Could this old-school chippie be past its best? Stingy portions continue to be the biggest gripe, but readers are also starting to protest about gruff service & a lack of ambience. On the plus side, the original 60s’ decor – all chequered tiles & Formica tables – remains unintentionally fabulous, & the battered fish is still pretty good, especially when the frying oil has been freshly changed. If fish isn’t your dish, there are always jumbo saveloys, not to mention a selection of pies, pasties & deep-fried chicken – just add peas, ketchup & a can of fizzy pop for the ultimate guilty pleasure. What’s more, prices remain cheaper than almost every other pit stop that doesn’t have golden arches above it. Perhaps there’s life in the old cod yet.

Best fish and chips in London

A favourite with locals and cabbies. This place is the real deal, been around for over 50 years. Food is fries with tallow.

Absolutely the best fish and chips in London.

Absolutely the best fish and chips in London. Been coming here since my university years nearby. Portions are huge - the photo squaremeal has taken is exactly as it comes. The friendly staff make it a pleasure every time.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS;
The place looks & feels old, but not in a good way. It's fairly cheap so I gave it a try as fish'n'chip outlets are not that common in the city. The chips were hard & had a synthetic oil taste, but worse than that the sausage I ordered was undercooked so I returned the lot. The older Mediterranean guy behind the counter who refused to give me a refund was rude & argumentative. Save your money & time, you're better off in McDonalds
