From the beautifully minimalist Gallery Café, housed in Rick Mather’s modern glass extension, diners can gaze across at Sir John Soane’s 1817 masterpiece. On bright days, the airy space is flooded
with light making this a lovely spot for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea, all served at table. From noon, the café – managed by Digby Trout, which also runs the Orangery at Kensington Palace –
offers a concise menu of Mediterranean-influenced seasonal dishes: perhaps mixed mezze, niçoise salad, or pollack roasted with cherry tomatoes. A breakfast menu is served from 9am (10am at
weekends), encompassing cooked options such as omelettes or a full English, as well as toast & pastries. Afternoon tea is particularly popular & includes Konditor & Cook cakes, as well
as the usual finger sandwiches & scones.
