SquareMeal Review of Chinaski's

Theme bars get a bad press because the themes are often naff from the outset. However, when the inspiration is cult author Charles Bukowski and his biographical protagonist Henry Chinaski, you’re in different territory – particularly with the prospect of more than 60 brands of American whiskey on display. Situated close to the city centre, Chinaski’s decor is de-saturated, dark and modish with only the bottles of amber spirits providing a hint of warmth. There’s an enclosed ‘bourbon and cigar garden’ for Glasgow’s non-rainy days, but most of the attractions are indoors. If the whiskey list defeats you, try the bourbon of the month – Booker’s for example – or browse the 30-strong rum selection. Meanwhile, the menu is several cuts above average pub grub with duck or sea bass as typical mains and a decent Sunday brunch too.
