Found near the main city centre attractions in Edinburgh, Chaophraya is looked after by owner Kim, who is proud to bring together a blend of classic and more creative Thai dishes. You can choose to look out over the beautiful city from the rooftop or snuggle up inside, with gorgeous surroundings that are inspired by Thailand.
Begin with nibbles of sweet and savoury toasted coconut and peanuts wrapped in pickled grape leaves, or prawn crackers with a sweet chilli dip. Small plates, which can be enjoyed as a mix and match main or starters, include see krong moo yang pork ribs with a BBQ sauce and pineapple, fish cakes with a coconut milk drizzle, shredded lime leaves and fresh chilli, and sweetcorn fritters fried with red curry and kaffir lime leaves.
To warm you up on a chilly day, choose the hot and sour soup with mushrooms, lemongrass, galangal, roasted chilli, lime leaves and flavoured with Thai herbs. Lunchtime favourites include salads, such as the papaya salad blended with carrot, cherry tomatoes, fine beans, dried shrimps, lime, chilli, garlic, fish sauce, palm sugar and peanuts, served with a sticky rice parcel.
It wouldn't be a Thai restaurant without some delicious rice and noodle options, including the street food classic of Thai basil fried rice with a fried egg and your choice of protein. There's also a king prawn pineapple fried rice, seafood udon noodles and the famous pad Thai. Curry lover? Order the most creamy beef panang with slow cooked beef brisket and sugar snap peas, or the famous Chiang Mai curry with breaded chicken, prawn and chicken dumplings, a boiled egg, cucumber relish and crispy noodles.
