Cata, located in the heart of Edinburgh, is the latest venture from renowned restaurateur Ignacio “Iggy” Campos, an ambassador for Spanish cuisine in Scotland since 1989. Following the acclaimed success of Iggs and Barioja on Jeffrey Street, and the beloved PIGGS on the Royal Mile, Iggy has returned with a fresh, exciting concept at Cata. The establishment is backed by a passionate team, including former PIGGS chef Lucia Moreno and Cat Tossnie, an experienced manager from The Auld Hundred, ensuring that every detail is curated to perfection.
Named after the Spanish word for “to taste,” Cata is designed as a celebration of flavour and culture. The restaurant invites guests to embark on a culinary journey that captures the essence of Spain, no matter the weather outside. With an extensive selection of over 60 tried and tested Spanish wines, Cata offers a perfect pairing for its carefully crafted dishes. Guests will enjoy hand-cut jamón alongside an impressive array of delectable tapas, each thoughtfully prepared to showcase authentic Spanish flavours.
The menu at Cata features an enticing range of tapas. Diners can savour boiled octopus served over black and yellow potatoes, enhanced by Spanish smoked paprika, extra virgin olive oil, and squid ink butter. A hearty white bean soup, enriched with jamón, chorizo, and pork belly, is accompanied by a slice of rustic bread. A mixed leaf salad, featuring seasonal squash, fiery ginger candy, and a blend of spices, provides a refreshing contrast. In addition, spicy chorizo cooked in cider with a rich chorizo cream, Canary Island style baby potatoes boiled in sea water with spicy mojio verde, and gordial olives marinated in a zesty brine round out the diverse offerings.
Cata is poised to become a vibrant hub for food lovers in Edinburgh, offering a taste of Spain that is as authentic as it is memorable. With every dish served, Cata promises celebration of Spanish heritage.
