As its name would suggest, Canal is a new canal-side restaurant in Westbourne Park. It forms part of the third hotel from Mason & Fifth, which also have boutique hotels in Primrose Hill and Bermondsey. The latest hotel is their largest one yet and the restaurant also holds big promise.
Canal boasts two huge south-facing windows bringing a lot of natural light during the day. Designed by Alessio Nardi, the interiors will feature long, communal tables and a central bar overlooking the canal. Sean Cooper is the general manager, who previously headed up The Fat Duck, Quality Chop House and Muse by Tom Aikens. There’s an emphasis on generous hospitality here and the restaurant is open to both guests and the general public. If their guesthouses are anything to go by, the restaurant will offer an equally tasteful experience.
Canal comes from the HAM restaurant group, who are behind the widely popular Crispin, Bar Crispin and Bistro Freddie. This venture will follow their ethos of seasonal and sustainable ingredients, making use of their carefully curated network of farmers, fishermen and producers. Chef Adrian Hernandez Farina is another exciting addition to the restaurant, having previously worked at the likes of HUMO, Chiltern Firehouse and French Laundry. The all-day restaurant will serve British and European food, leaning into an urban, gritty riviera atmosphere. From breakfast through to dinner and late-night drinks, Canal will bring a bit of European sunshine to West London.
Between the excellent management and the promising kitchen team, it’s safe to say, this isn’t anybody’s first rodeo. When top-notch industry people come together to collaborate, it’s usually a recipe for something extra special, and we’re buzzing to watch Canal come to life.
