Canal is a laidback canal-side restaurant in Westbourne Park, from HAM Restaurants (Crispin, Bistro Freddie) bringing a sense of relaxed, all-day dining to one of west London’s quieter corners. Set alongside the water, it forms part of the third hotel from Mason & Fifth – joining sibling sites in Primrose Hill and Bermondsey – but Canal stands confidently as a destination in its own right.
Flooded with natural light thanks to two large south-facing windows, the space feels open and easygoing from morning through to night. Interiors by Alessio Nardi strike a balance between polish and informality, with long communal tables encouraging sociable dining and a central bar positioned to make the most of the canal views. It’s the sort of room that works just as well for a casual coffee as it does for a long lunch or evening drinks.
Hospitality is a major focus here, overseen by general manager Sean Cooper, whose CV includes heavy-hitting names such as The Fat Duck, Quality Chop House and Muse by Tom Aikens. That experience translates into a warm, confident service style, and while Canal sits within a hotel, it is very much aimed at locals as well as guests.
The restaurant comes from the HAM restaurant group – the team behind Crispin, Bar Crispin and Bistro Freddie – so expectations are understandably high. In the kitchen is chef Adrian Hernandez Farina, formerly of HUMO, Chiltern Firehouse and the French Laundry. Together, they deliver an all-day menu rooted in British and European cooking, with an emphasis on seasonal produce and unfussy flavours.
The overall mood leans into what the team describe as an ‘urban Riviera’ – relaxed but purposeful, slightly gritty yet undeniably stylish. Canal is the kind of neighbourhood restaurant that feels carefully considered without being overworked, offering a calm, convivial place to eat, drink and linger by the water.
