Nacho and Richard are the powerhouse duo behind Camino Farringdon, a fantastic Spanish restaurant with a focus on authentic tapas. The restaurant has three locations in major areas of London, with this Farringdon branch on Turnmill Street. It’s a little slice of Spain in the City, featuring tiled walls, exposed bricks, vintage chandeliers and soft romantic lighting.
Para picar are first up on the Camino Farringdon tapas menu, with house marinated manzanilla olives in olive oil, thyme, lemon zest and sherry vinegar, along with a Basque-style baked crab, salted roasted almonds from Valencia, and mini Catalan sausages. Charcuterie and cheese options include jamon iberico pata negra - a world renowned delicacy, that's taken from 100% pure bred Iberico pigs, raised on a diet of acorns in the Spanish dehesa landscape. We'd seriously consider ordering the Camerano cheese, cured for 45 days with a fig and almond cake pan, and the manchego sheep cheese with quince jelly.
Some of the Camino classic tapas dishes include crispy calamari with aioli and fresh lemon, succulent prawns cooked with olive oil, garlic, guindilla chilli and white wine, and creamy croquettes with Iberico ham and salmorejo sauce. Depending on the seasons, you may find slow braised, pressed and pan roasted suckling pig, with celeriac puree, pork crackling, truffle and Amontillado sherry jus, or a paella style seafood dish of fideau with tiger prawns.
As for larger plates, Camino Farringdon offers a selection of charcoal grilled plates including Canary Island style juicy baby chicken, served with mojo picon sauce, new potatoes and a red sorrel, chervil and parsley. There are also a bunch of delicious steaks on the menu, and several flavour enhancing sauces to choose from. For dessert, try the traditional Basque homemade cheesecake, made with golden free range eggs and soft cheese, served with a blueberry jam.
