Bunso is an all-day neighbourhood bakery-turned-pizzeria, a welcome addition to Filipino chef Omar Shah’s collection of restaurants around Kentish Town.
Omar Shah, founder of an impressive restaurant group pioneering Filipino and fusion cooking, welcomes the youngest addition to his family of neighbourhood restaurants. He and his family have been populating the neighbourhood with bakeries, Caribbean takeaways, cafes, and an ice cream parlour, and is now turning his hand to restaurants.
Proudly inspired by his Filipino heritage, Omar and his family introduced Kentish Town to the family Filipino kitchen nearly four decades ago, with the first restaurant Bintang. The group has since expanded to include the modern Filipino restaurant Belly, which has since been added to the Michelin Guide.
Bunso continues Omar’s tradition of faithfully serving Kentish Town with inspired fusion cooking. The space transitions across the day, from bakery in the morning to pizzeria by evening. By extending the invite to everyone from early risers and evening diners, Bunso is a welcome addition to a lively neighbourhood.
Diners can expect to find bakery items in the morning with coffee, and pizzas, pastas, and salads with wine in the evening, with the selection organically infused with the Filipino food that Shah has grown up with and continues to be inspired by. The menu extends beyond just a pizzeria menu, including crudo and kinilaw (raw seafood) dishes as well.
Referencing the dual-dining experience, Bunso’s attractive wood-panelled interior is smart but relaxed. Extending down the side wall, the space is warmed by a purpose-built sound system playing a curation of vinyls and CDs, showcased with the setup.
