The best happy hours in London: Where to head for deals and discounts on drinks

We’ve all felt it. That soul-crushing feeling the morning after a night of round-buying and succumbing to calls of 'go on, just one more'. You do the calculations swiftly in your head and quickly decide it’s simply not worth checking the old bank balance. Such is the nature of drinking in London, because it doesn’t come cheap, friends. Sadly, we’re no longer surprised when every cocktail on the menu surpasses the £10 mark, and have become resigned to the fact that a pint of bitter will set you back six quid, more or less. £7 if you're somewhere particularly smart.

You could accept it and go about your day, or you could type ‘the best happy hour deals in London’ into Google, an endeavour that will hopefully lead you to this guide. Because we’ve been there. Why shouldn’t it be possible to enjoy the benefits of London’s night life without the fear of saying yes to a double shot? To set your sights on some of its coolest bars and most instagrammable restaurants, without feeling physical pain at every tap of your contactless card.

If you want to find the best deals and discounts on drinks in this dear (in every sense of the word) capital, then happy hours are your friends. Which is why we’ve scouted out the best places to grab discounted drinks. We’re talking 2-4-1 cocktails and pitchers on a budget. Happy hours that run every day (yes, even on a Saturday), with some starting from the hour it opens.

We’ve rounded-up places from Bermondsey to Balham, and plenty in-between, so you can make it a happy hour crawl if you so wish. These thrifty deals will ensure your wallet doesn't take too much of a hit – we're all for drinking responsibly after all.

Venn Street Records, Clapham

What: You’re likely to have come across one of Venn Street Record’s sister venues before (see Old Street Records and Northcote Records), but it’s this site near Clapham Common that originally got the party started. VSR is known for an always-groovy playlist of old-school tracks and reliably good vibes - and it's always rammed. You can grab 2-4-1 cocktails every day from 5-8pm here, or check out its Cheap Date menu for two drinks and two pizzas for £25. We won't tell if you don't.
Happy hour deal: 2-4-1 cocktails every day from 5-8pm, or two drinks and two pizzas for £25
Where: 78 Venn Street, London, SW4 0BD
Book now: Venn Street Records

Megan’s, Various locations

What: It’s slightly embarrassing how many times we've found ourselves at Megan’s on a weekend (or weeknight), but hey, you can’t knock it for serving up great value drinks between the hours of 5-7pm, in gloriously millennial surrounds (expect plants and fairy lights aplenty). Choose from a selection of drinks for £5, including (large) glasses of wine, prosecco and Aperol Spritz.
Happy hour deal: Selected drinks for £5 between 5-7pm
Where: Various locations
Book now: Megan's Wimbledon, Megan's Fulham, Megan's Clapham, Megan's Chiswick and more

The Blue’s Kitchen, Camden

What: Not quite as generous as Megan‘s, but still a sure-fire way to carry you over that hump day hurdle, The Blue’s Kitchen in Camden knocks its cocktail list back to £5 a pop every Wednesday from 5pm. You’ll also be treated to some live blues music while you sit – and who doesn’t want that?
Happy hour deal: Cocktails for £5 on Wednesdays from 5pm
Where: 111-113 Camden High Street, London, NW1 7JN

The Rum Kitchen, Various locations

What: Whatever the time of year, Caribbean-inspired The Rum Kitchen is sure to bring the summer vibes with its colourful timbers, open kitchen and easy-going staff. When the sun goes down, this party place really kicks into gear with DJ sets and a dancefloor for grooving, but to get the good vibes rolling beforehand, settle in early with £6 cocktails until 7pm. They’re all rum-based of course. We like the Jamrock Punch made with white rum, Koko Kanu, grenadine, pineapple, guava and fresh lime juice.
Happy hour deal: Selected cocktails for £6 everyday until 7pm
Where: 435-437 Coldharbour Lane, London, SW9 8LN
Book now: The Rum Kitchen Brixton, The Rum Kitchen Shoreditch, The Rum Kitchen Soho

214, Bermondsey

What: Bermondey is home to its fair share of cool places to eat – Jose Pizarro’s tapas bar for starters, and Angela Hartnett's Café Murano – but first on our list when it comes to the drinks is 214 (no, not 2-4-1). This underground bar is known for its gins, so it’s no surprise that its happy hour offers thirsty customers double G&Ts for just a fiver. Yes, that’s double G&Ts. It also serves selected cocktails for £6 between 5-6pm.
Happy hour deal: Double G&Ts for £5, or selected cocktails for £6 between 5-6pm everyday
Where: 214 Bermondsey Street, London, SE1 3TQ

Burger & Lobster, Various locations

What: Burger & Lobster have nine locations dotted all over London, so you're likely to never be far away from this surf 'n' turf restaurant. Its happy hour runs fairly early, 4-6pm, but customers can enjoy two hours of £5 cocktails so we're not complaining. Look out for the Lobstar Martini, Strawberry Fields and Purple Rain.
Happy hour deal: Cocktails for £5 Monday-Friday, 4-6pm
Where: Various locations
Book now: City, Soho, Mayfair, Fitzrovia and more

London Cocktail Club, Liverpool Street

What: With a name like London Cocktail Club, it doesn’t take much guessing to work out what this spot does best. With sites all over London, it’s a reliable option for a cocktail night with friends, and you can grab two drinks for £12 on the entire menu, every day from open until 7pm. Each location is decorated a little bit differently but its Liverpool Street site is one of our favourites, styled with fairground-inspired décor.

Tequila Mockingbird, Putney

What: Another quality cocktail joint is Tequila Mockingbird, made great by its name (because everyone loves a pun) and its happy hour deal. Grab 2-4-1 on all its cocktails from 5-8pm every day – that’s three hours to make a dent in its extensive menu. We know you’ve got it in you...

The Three Crowns, Stoke Newington

What: If you're looking for somewhere a little more low-key that offers familiar British pub vibes, then The Three Crowns is a good bet. And while its drinks prices usually reflect its trendy location, you can get two cocktails for £15 or selected pints for £3.90 between 4-7pm, Monday to Friday. It's pretty spacious inside, too, so round-up the crew and get down here this week.
Happy hour deal: Two cocktails for £15 or selected pints for £3.90 between 4-7pm, Monday to Friday

The Escapologist, Covent Garden

What: We suggest you head to this central spot straight after work, where the cocktails are buy-one-get-one-free from 4-7pm, Monday to Friday. Staying true to its name, its glamorous interiors provide an awesome escape from the daily drudge of the city above. Golden arched ceilings, red velvet booths and a whole lot of sparkle scream ‘it’s party time’ - no matter what day of the week.

Patch, St Paul’s

What: Patch in St Paul’s specialises in happy hour with special offers across cocktails, wine, beer and food. It’s only a weekday deal, running Monday to Friday, but its offering is so good we’ll forgive them. So, what do you get? Between 4-7pm, grab 50% off bottles of wine and spirits, 25% of sparkling, 2-4-1 on all cocktails, £17.50 for beer buckets and £85 for 24 bottles of Peroni. Phew! What will be your deal of choice?

The Exhibit, Balham

What: The Exhibit is a versatile events space in Balham housing a cinema, studio, multiple alfresco spaces, bars and a kitchen. And with all of that going on, we’d certainly expect it to offer a half decent happy hour as part of the bundle, which it does: 2-4-1 on selected drinks every day from 5pm to 7pm. Choose from pints of Amstel, prosecco, gin and tonics, espresso martinis or porn star martinis.
Happy hour deal: Selected 2-4-1 drinks every day from 5pm to 7pm
Where: 12 Balham Station Road, London, SW12 9SG
Book now: The Exhibit

Double Standard, King’s Cross

What: This 1970s-style bar dons geometric patterns and a red and blue colour scheme, a description that doesn’t really do justice to how cool this bar really is. Its cocktails are experimental, but worth the gamble, and you can grab a selection from the list at 2-4-1 every Monday.
Happy hour deal: 2-4-1 on selected cocktails every Monday, 4-10pm
Where: 10 Argyle Street, London, WC1H 8EG
Book now: Double Standard

Goldfinch, Tooting

What: Something of a steal if you’re local to Tooting is cocktail bar Goldfinch, just a short walk from the broadway, which offers two for £12 on cocktails until 7pm every day. There are plenty of classic options included, from negronis to pisco sours, as well as a drink entitled Only Fans made with Haymans Gin, Aperol, passionfruit, lime and vanilla.
Happy hour deal: Two cocktails for £12 until 7pm every day
Where: 145 Mitcham Road, London, SW17 9PE

Barrio Soho, Soho

What: You might want to put on a pair of sunglasses before stepping into Barrio, which is awash with oranges, yellows and blues. And if you think the décor is an assault on the eyes, just wait until you see its happy hour deal which offers criminally low drinks prices. Running from Tuesday to Thursday until 9pm, and until 7pm on Fridays, you can grab 2-4-1 on cocktails, buy a bottle of prosecco for 20 quid, £3 tequila shots and £4 Sols. And because happy hour doesn’t have to be confined to drinks, it also serves £3 tacos from Tuesday to Friday. A wise decision, really – you're going to need something to soak up those tequilas...
Happy hour deal: 2-4-1 on cocktails Tuesday to Thursday until 9pm, or until 7pm on Fridays, prosecco for £20, £3 tequila shots and £4 Sols
Where: 6 Poland Street, London, W1F 8PS

Salvador and Amanda, Covent Garden

What: This Spanish tapas bar and restaurant runs a sangria hour, in which pitchers of the classic cocktail are £14.50 between 5-7pm every day. Considering cocktails are about £12 each from the regular menu, we’d say that’s pretty good going.
Happy hour deal: Sangria pitchers for £14.50 between 5-7pm every day
