This relaxed bar and bistro is all about keeping things simple. When you walk through the doors, you will be greeted by a stripped back, shabby chic dining which features exposed white brick walls, as royal blue bar crowned with a white granite countertop and houseplants dotted along counters and perched in corners.
Belzan champions simple and seasonal food, using local ingredients where possible and preparing many components of its dishes in-house. This attention to the origin of produce is obvious from a quick glance at the à la carte, a constantly evolving collection of ingredient-led sharing plates that are replete with subtle Asian influences. On your visit, you might come across the likes of wild mushroom gnocchi or mackerel yakitori with shisho mayonnaise. Elsewhere, you may find pork chicharrones with dashi vinegar or barbecued whole sea bream with tomato and a sherry glaze.
When it comes to pudding, the menu of the day might feature sweet treats such as tiramisu ice cream topped with a coffee crumb, or a slice of burnt cheesecake served along with a dollop of miso caramel.
While dinner may be the real draw here, Belzan also serves a more than capable breakfast menu. Pop by from 8am to start your day with a classic English breakfast, or opt for something sweet such as banana bread crowned with vanilla crème fraiche, berries and a drizzle of honey. Lunch is available too – think the like of pasta Alfredo with truffle crumb, or pan-fried pork chop with Jersey royals and salsa verde.
While boozy brunches are normally confined to the weekends, Belzan’s daytime menu comes with the option to go ‘bottomless’, where you can enjoy 90 minutes of free-flowing Mimosas, Spritz, Bloody Marys or beers. Note that most of the restaurant’s tables, including the seats at the bar and by the window, are kept free for walk-ins, but parties of six or more are able to reserve a table.
