SquareMeal Review of Allotment Vegan

Bronze Award

Having started out as a pop-up, chef Matthew Nutter has won huge acclaim since launching The Allotment in Stockport in 2016 with a creative plant-based menu. Now he has brought the award-winning Allotment restaurant into Manchester city centre.

The 45-cover restaurant is an elegant, laid-back space, all pale wood and cool blues and greys with a touch of exposed brick. A three, seven or 10-course tasting menu is fully vegan as well as gluten-free, from confit aubergine with roasted cauliflower to parsnip and vanilla ice cream with cranberry jam.

As well as the popular tasting menus, a separate bar area serves light bites and sharing boards such as celery hot wings and celery salted kale crisps, nut cheeses, and a Ploughman’s platter with shiitake parfait and candy beetroot carpaccio.

The Allotment has raised the bar when it comes to what the city can expect from plant-based food, offering innovative and refined dishes, but served in a relaxed, inclusive environment.
