Squaremeal Review of Tom Simmons ?

Former Masterchef: The Professionals runner-up Tom Simmons is intent on cultivating his Welsh roots at the first restaurant to bear his name, having previously worked under the likes of Mark Sargeant (Plum + Spilt Milk) and Tom Aikens (Tom’s Kitchen). His 50-cover debut serves up an all-day menu of traditional Welsh dishes, given French and English accents: think salt-baked beetroot with a goats’ cheese and apple salad, or rhubarb panna cotta served alongside a Granny Smith sorbet and ginger biscuits. If you’re looking for a light bite, there's also a selection of small plates available at the bar, which include cockle popcorn with laver bread mayonnaise. Just in case you don’t know, laver bread is boiled seaweed which has been dipped in oatmeal then fried, and it’s rather popular in Wales – we think it’s about time London’s restaurant got scene got a bit more Welsh.
