SquareMeal Review of Homeslice Covent Garden

Bronze Award

Originally a pop-up, Homeslice has found a permanent home for its wood-fired pizza oven among the craft stores, rainbow cafés and natural apothecaries of Neal’s Yard. Weekend shoppers and tourists join a young local crowd in the buzzy whitewashed dining room with its plain wooden tables and vintage industrial vibe. There's only one thing on the menu – although a changing roll call of artisan toppings sets Homeslice apart from your average high-street pizzeria. Creative combinations include moist pork belly with zesty chimichurri and smoked onions or white anchovy with chard, Doddington cheese and a spritz of orange zest. All come with perfectly crisp bases and delicious doughy crusts; order by the slice or get stuck into the magnificent 20-inch version, washed down with crisp Saint lager, Prosecco or house wines delivered in measurable magnums (simply pay for what you drink). Takeaway slices, too.

A real disapointment

A real disapointment

We visited HomeSlice in Covent Garden yesterday — a place we used to love and had been to many times before. Sadly, the quality has clearly gone downhill.

The pizzas were noticeably sparse with toppings, and a large border was left bare around the edges. Previously, toppings were generous and spread all the way to the crust — that’s simply no longer the case.

The service charge has crept up to 13.5%, which feels excessive given that the service itself was virtually non-existent — no attention, no interaction.

To top it off, we asked for water and were brought warm water in a dirty carafe, then charged £2.25 for it.

A real disappointment. We won’t be returning, and would not recommend it.

Delicious pizzas! Unique flavours and fabulously huge pizzas is a win!

The staff were friendly and polite, they were patient and interacted well with my children.

Oh yh the DJ was fab too!

Value for money - the pizza's are huge! It tends to have a queue but the service is so quick and good that you never have to wait that long. Esepcially as it's in a cute square in Covent Garden you can go for a drink while you wait.

Although a little pricey, there's always creative flavours and a together atmosphere.

Bookings cannot be made in advance at Homeslice as they operate on a first-come-first-serve basis which keeps the excitement and liveliness high. Staff are polite and helpful, and the ambience is buzzy yet homely. Well worth the wait!

Great for pre-theatre, quick lunches and fabulously fun pizza. Service is quick and friendly.
